IWG Extended Author List
Why this Plugin?
After I became the Maintainer of the Role Manager” Plugin for WordPress I received this comment from Karl:
… in my particular site I have a few users that are only allowed to save drafts. When I publish their drafts my admin-user show up as the author, since the actual users name isn’t in the “Author” menu …
I looked into the WordPress-Code and found the reason: WordPress - also 2.1.x - looks for user-level and not capabilities
It is not a good idea to give your restricted users a high level - this is a security leak, because many Plugins use this way to decide what is allowed for a user. A better way is create an extra capability for these users and use a special Plugin for thinks what you want. This is what “IWG Extended Author List” do for you.
IWG Extended Author List expand your author-list at the post-page on every user, what have a special capability. This special capability called: show_in_authorlist
Other Plugins you need
You need the Role Manager Plugin. After you have a running version of it, you can make the next steps here.
Download and Installation
- Download the “IWG Extended Author List” Plugin
- Unzip the downloaded file and copy all included files in the plugin-directory (
wp-content/plugins) - Activate the Plugin at your WordPress “Plugins”-Tab
- Ready!
Using
- With the Role Manager create the new capability show_in_authorlist.
- Assign this capability to all your users that are only allowed to save drafts.
All these users now are shown also in the “Author” drop-down-menu when editing posts or pages.
Current Version
The current Version is 1.0 from 28. Febr. 2007.

This is great! Thank you for making this plugin.
My previously problems are now solved, thanks to you. As far as I can see the plugin works together with my draft- and postcontrol plugins for batch publishing drafts as well.
Again, thank you.

I tried installing this, because after installing Roles and Capabilities plugin, my admin user could no longer create posts, as that account was not listed in the Author dropdown list.
However when I went to add show_in_authorlist as a capability, I got the error message: A valid capability name can only have letters, digits and spaces. Try Role Managers “Spaces allowed in Capabilities” option.
I’m confused! I really need to be able to post to my own blog, but can’t with your plugin.

Nevermind… I’m going to have to remove both plugins because they conflict with the Anarchy Media player plugin, which is essential for my blog.
